Trail Rangers looking for volunteers in Parker Colorado

Trail Rangers looking for volunteers

The Town of Parker is looking for 20 to 25 volunteers to join a new Trail Ranger program. Trail Rangers will patrol the community’s 75 miles of multi-use trails and be extra eyes and ears for the Town to report trail maintenance issues, safety concerns and citizen feedback. Trail Ranger volunteers will be equipped with informational materials including trail system maps, local trail-related regulations and contact information for Town personnel. Cyclists, skaters, walkers and equestrians who utilize area trails on a regular basis are invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parker Mainstreet
Center, 19650 E. Mainstreet.

“The Trail Ranger program is a way to support your community, keep the local trail system safe and promote active lifestyle choices in Parker,” says Recreation Department Communications Coordinator Amy Tartaglia Johns, “Plus, you can volunteer and get your exercise at the same time!”

The ideal Trail Ranger volunteer will already be an active trail user, be comfortable distributing trail information to fellow trail users and be enthusiastic about helping the Town improve its extensive trail system. Volunteers will patrol the trail on their own time and report trail maintenance issues, safety concerns and public feedback to the Town’s Public Works, Recreation and Police staff. Trail Rangers will be trained in basic bicycle maintenance, carry a tool kit and bike pump, learn about equestrian issues unique to Parker’s trail, and be kept up to date
about trail expansions and improvements. Rangers will carry trail maps and
other trail information for distribution to the public.

At the July informational meeting interested volunteers will learn more about the new program and can sign up as Trail Rangers. The Trail Ranger program is open to participants 16 and older, although minors must have parental permission to participate. High school community service hours are available for youth participants.

To sign up for the July 19 meeting, or for more information about the program, please call Amy at 303.805.3267 or email ajohns@ci.parker.co.us.
