The Parker Arts Council will begin the 2007 Season with an Asian Festival Celebration.
This cultural event will take you to the Far East, right here in Parker! The festivities will include music, dance, art, food, costumes and explanations of traditions going back thousands of years. Come and enjoy the Summit Choir performing traditional folk songs, the Denver Chinese School demonstrating the Chinese Tea Ceremony and a children’s dance. You will be dazzled by the Cambodian Dance Troupe performing the Coconut Dance and as Kaci Kopec performs her Ancient Hawaiian and Maori dances. Enjoy the Thai Classical Music and Dance Group as they perform traditional Thai music and folk dance. The Christina Yeh Dance Studio will present dances from Taiwan.
The Lao Hmong American Coalition will provide a cultural show with narrations describing traditional costumes worn during celebrations. Listen to the Indonesian instrumental/percussion music introduced by Frankie Anderson, the amazing Lion Dance performed by the Colorado Asian Cultural Heritage Center.
Parker’s own Parker Academy of Martial Arts will offer an exhibition of Korean Tae Kwon Do.
There will be a variety of Asian foods to sample (you can even try your hand at using chopsticks!) and crafts for children to create and take home. This is an evening of cultural entertainment. Have fun and learn something new while you have a great time as a family.
