Parker Food Bank Needs Food Now!

Faced with a 45 percent increase in need, the Parker Task Force Food Bank is asking for extra donations and help during its monthly food drives.

"We need your help during these 'summer doldrums' as we try to collect enough food to carry us through until the holiday food drives, especially as the number of families seeking assistance continues to grow," said PTF Co-Chair Clark Hastings.

"We have seen a 45 percent increase in the number of families needing help in 2007 - compared to 2006," he said. "In July alone, we provided assistance to 146 families - compared to 103 families in July of 2006. The need continues."

The PTF's monthly food drives on Aug. 18 and Sept. 15 at local grocery stores offer residents an easy opportunity to donate food or volunteer their time, Hastings noted

"Individuals should call 303-841-3460 if they are interested in helping us collect food at the local King Soopers and Safeway," Hastings said. "If they can't volunteer for a two-hour shift, they can stop by the stores and do a little shopping for their neighbors in need. "

Donations also can be delivered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at the task force, 20118 E. Mainstreet, Unit D.

The Parker Task Force currently serves more than 400 families in the Parker, Elizabeth and Franktown communities who need short-term support. Because the PTF is operated by dedicated volunteers in space donated by the Town, costs are kept to a minimum so that donations will go to those who need it.
