Design input requested for Parker's proposed Skate Park
The Town of Parker kicks off the design process for a proposed new
skate park with a public meeting at the Parker Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Oct.
30 from 5 to 7 p.m. The town wants skaters of all ages and ability
levels to meet with the design team so that the final project is
challenging, fun and functional!
Including future park users from the start of the design process is
critical to developing a skate park that will fit the evolving needs of
Parker's youth. "The skaters are an amazing resource when it comes to
design trends and what they like and dislike about other facilities,"
notes Director of Recreation and Parks Development Jim Cleveland, "It's a
unique opportunity for them to watch their vision become reality on a
project that's important to them."
The Town is working with Site Design Group (California) to create the
skate park component for a new park at the southwest corner of Twenty
Mile Road and Plaza Drive, just west of the Parker Fieldhouse. The
proposed eight acre park will include a new skate park, four tennis courts,
two picnic shelters, restroom facilities and a playground. If funding is
available, the skate park will also include lights. Pending final
budget approval by Town Council, construction on the park is expected to
begin in the spring of 2008, with completion targeted for fall 2008.
This is the first of a series of public meetings to solicit community
feedback on the design of the park. If you would like to provide input
but cannot attend the meetings, you are welcome to send comments or
suggestions to the Recreation Department at recreation@parkeronline.org. To
