Parker Recreation's Group Fitness Survey

Parker Recreation's Group Fitness Survey

The Parker Recreation Department invites you to help evaluate its group fitness classes. Customer feedback is essential as fitness staff works to keep ahead of trends, maximize resources, and exceed the expectations of the department's diverse customer base.

"January is an ideal time to evaluate our class offerings," says Fitness and Wellness Coordinator Hillary Roemersberger, "Our facilities are busy with people living up to their new year's resolutions, and we want to know what resources they need in order to stick with their goals throughout the year." The survey queries topics including preferred class times, class types and class components.

Group fitness class surveys are available at the front desk of the Recreation Center, from your group fitness class instructor, on online at http://www.parkeronline.org/recreation/recreation_pdfs/Group_Fitness_Survey_08.pdf.
Bring your completed survey to any Parker Recreation facility by January 11, 2008.

Parker Recreation Center offering Ski and snowboard programs

Parker Recreation has teamed up with Echo Mountain Park to offer youth ski and snowboard programs this winter for kids age 10 through 17. Echo Mountain is Colorado's newest, closest and most affordable ski area, located just outside Evergreen on Squaw Pass Road. The Echo Mountain Ski Bus leaves from the Parker Recreation Center, 17301 Lincoln Ave., at the designated meeting time and brings the kids back to the Recreation Center after their time on the slopes.

The Friday Afternoon Ski and Snowboard Club picks teens up from the Parker Recreation Center at 4 p.m. for a fun night skiing or riding under the stars. The bus brings participants back at 10 p.m. Trips are scheduled Jan. 18, Feb. 22 and March 14. Cost is $65 per trip if you want rental equipment and a lesson, or $55 for a lift ticket and transportation only.

Holiday Ski and Snowboard Jam takes advantage of Martin Luther King Day and Presidents' Day, when students have Monday off from school. The Ski Bus picks up skiers and snowboarders ages 10 through 17 at 8 a.m. for a full day on the slopes. Fees are $65 with a lesson and equipment rental, or $55 for lift ticket and transportation only.

An after school Learn to Ski or Snowboard program for ages 10 to 14 offers four weeks of lessons on Wednesday nights from Jan. 9 to 30. The Ski Bus departs at 4 p.m. and returns at 9 p.m. The $250 fee covers lessons, rentals and lift tickets for four weeks; if you don't need lessons the fee is $230.

Echo Mountain capitalizes on its proximity to Denver and fills an interesting niche in the local ski industry. They are set up with lights and music throughout the mountain so that skiers and snowboarders can make an after school or after work trip and get in plenty of runs. They offer an extensive lesson program designed to introduce new participants to the sport.

For more information about Echo Mountain, visit www.echomtnpark.com. If you have questions about the youth ski and snowboard outings listed above, call Assistant Recreation Director for Programs Mary Colton at 303.805.3261 or email mcolton@parkeronline.org.

Best Meteor Shower of 2007 Peaks Dec. 13

By Joe Rao
SPACE.com Skywatching Columnist
posted: 04 December 2007

What could be the best meteor display of the year will reach its peak on the night of Dec.13-14.

Here is what astronomers David Levy and Stephen Edberg have written of the annual Geminid Meteor Shower: "If you have not seen a mighty Geminid fireball arcing gracefully across an expanse of sky, then you have not seen a meteor."

The Geminids get their name from the constellation of Gemini, the Twins, because the meteors appear to emanate from a spot in the sky near the bright star Castor in Gemini.

Also in Gemini this month is the planet Mars, nearing a close approach to the Earth later this month, and shining brilliantly with yellow-orange hue. To be sure, Mars is certain to attract the attention of prospective Geminid watchers this upcoming week.

Reliable shower

The Geminid Meteors are usually the most satisfying of all the annual showers, even surpassing the famous Perseids of August.

Studies of past find the "Gems" have a reputation for being rich both in slow, bright, graceful meteors and fireballs as well as faint meteors, with relatively fewer objects of medium brightness.

The est of the story here.

QUESTION? Ideas? Comments about Parker? Ask HERE!

Is there an ordinance against allowing a basement sump pump discharge from running across the sidewalk and into the street gutter of a Parker, CO, residential neighborhood. The discharge is significnat, and the result has left the sidewalk and gutter slimy green and constantly wet (or icy). Thanks.
